The Eclipse Virgo Project
The Eclipse Virgo project provides a modular open source application server based on OSGi. The project is a donation to the Eclipse foundation of the dm Server open source project developed by SpringSource (VMware). Virgo supports standard WAR files and modular webapps comprising OSGi bundles. We'll explore the key features such as: repositories, deployment plans, standalone kernel, regions, shell, and administration console. We'll also cover the current status of the Virgo project and how you can find out more and get involved.
Neil Bartlett (WW UK) Neil Bartlett is a Java developer and consultant specialising in Eclipse RCP, RAP and OSGi, in particular their use in large enterprise settings. Recently he has helped a number of financial institutions with their adoption of RCP and evangelises the use of the Eclipse/OSGi technology platform for both client and server-side development. Neil is also the author of "OSGi in Practice", an introductory book on OSGi which is available for free under a Creative Commons license. Neil's blog can be found here.
Glyn Normington (SpringSource/VMware) Glyn leads the Virgo project. He is an active member of the OSGi Alliance Core Platform and Enterprise Expert Groups. He previously worked on transaction processing middleware and Java runtimes.
